1package (16 oz./1 lb/454 g) hot roll mix*

2 cups(500 ml) pitted and halved Northwest fresh sweet cherries

1/2 cup(125 ml) sugar

2 Tbsp(30 ml) lemon juice

1 tsp(5 ml) grated lemon peel

1 tsp(5 ml) ground cinnamon

4 ounces(120 g) lowfat cream cheese

1/2 tsp(2.5 ml) almond extract

3 Tbsp(45 ml) toasted sliced almonds

2 Tbsp(30 ml) milk

Prepare hot roll mix according to package directions. Combine cherries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon peel, and cinnamon. Mix cream cheese and almond extract.

Divide dough into 8 equal pieces. Flatten into 6-inch (15 cm) rounds. Spoon 1/4 cup (60 ml) cherry mixture onto one half of each round. Top with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cream cheese and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) almonds. Fold dough in half and seal edges. Pierce tops with a fork to allow steam to escape. Brush with milk; sprinkle each with 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) cinnamon sugar, if desired. Bake at 350 °F (175 °C) about 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
