Baked Fresh Tomato, Ham and Swiss Filled Rolls

Ingredients

    • 2
      large fresh Florida Tomatoes, about 1 lb (500 g)
    • 6 oz
      (180 g) sliced ham, cut in strips, about 1 ½ cups (375 mL)
    • 6 oz
      (180 g) Swiss cheese, shredded, about 1 ½ cups (375 mL)
    • 3 tbsp
      (45 mL) creamy mustard blend
    • 1 tbsp
      (15 mL) prepared white horseradish
    • 4
      large hard round, Kaiser rolls, halved

Instructions

    1. Core tomatoes; cut in large chunks; set aside. In a medium bowl, combine ham, cheese, mustard blend and horseradish. Gently stir in tomatoes.
    2. Remove the inside from the bottom portion of each roll, leaving ½ to ¾ inch (1 to 2 cm) thick shells. Place on a baking sheet. Fill each shell with about 1 cup (250 mL) of the tomato mixture; top with upper portion of roll. Bake until heated through and cheese starts to melt, about 15 minutes.

  • Use tomatoes held at room temperature until fully ripe.
